Eclipse 2017 Research - Cities Near The CenterlineHere are the 24 metropolitan areas that lie within the path of totality - along with their individual cities that lie very close to the centerline. These cities (in bold) will undergo an umbral depth 80% or greater - meaning that they lie within 6 miles (10 km.) of the centerline and will experience the darkest part of the eclipse (see image below). These cities will also have the greatest durations of totality for the area. |
Path of Totality is within blue border lines - Umbral Depth of 80% or greater is within black border lines![]() State  Areas    Cities           in the   near the            path   centerline OREGON       - Newport     - Area to first see the shadow - Totality begins in the United States at 10:15:51 AM Pacific Daylight Time             - Lincoln Beach             - Depoe Bay       - Salem/Albany/Corvallis                 - Monmouth/Independence             - Stayton             - Aumsville             - Jefferson             - Sublimity             - Mill City             - Turner             - Lyons             - Falls City       - Madras                 - Madras       - Baker City/Ontario/Weiser(ID)     - Area with the highest elevation             - Prairie City             - Huntington             - Stanley(ID) IDAHO       - Idaho Falls                 - Rexburg             - Victor             - Driggs             - Menan             - Roberts WYOMING       - Jackson     - Area that is the most scenic             - Moose Wilson Road/Teton Village       - Riverton                 - Shoshoni       - Casper                 - Casper             - Mills             - Evansville             - Bar Nunn             - Vista West             - Hartrandt       - Douglas                 - Glendo NEBRASKA       - Alliance                 - Alliance       - North Platte                 - Arnold             - Callaway             - Stapleton       - Grand Island                 - Grand Island             - Geneva             - Sutton             - Ravenna             - Henderson             - Doniphan             - Cairo             - Exeter             - Fairmont       - Lincoln                 - Beatrice             - Wilber             - Pawnee City             - Humboldt             - DeWitt MISSOURI       - Kansas City/St Joseph                 - St Joseph             - Falls City(NE)             - Carrollton             - Lawson             - Plattsburg             - Elwood/Wathena(KS)             - Lathrop             - Gower             - Highland(KS)             - Troy(KS)             - Waverly             - Norborne             - Agency             - Polo       - Columbia/Jefferson City                 - Columbia             - Marshall             - Boonville             - Ashland             - Slater             - New Franklin             - New Bloomfield       - St Louis     - Area with the largest metropolitan population             - Union             - De Soto             - St Clair/Parkway             - St Genevieve             - Hillsboro             - Gerald             - Olympian Village             - Prairie du Rocher(IL)             - Bloomsdale ILLINOIS       - Carbondale/Marion     - Area with the greatest total eclipse duration - 2 minutes, 41 seconds             - Carbondale             - Murphysboro             - Chester             - Vienna             - Cobden             - Goreville             - Golconda             - Makanda KENTUCKY       - Hopkinsville/Paducah/Madisonville     - Area with the greatest eclipse magnitude - and sun highest in the sky during totality             - Hopkinsville             - Princeton             - Eddyville             - Elkton             - Guthrie             - Pembroke             - Salem             - Kuttawa TENNESSEE       - Nashville/Clarksville                 - Gallatin             - Springfield             - White House             - Hartsville             - Cross Plains             - Adairville(KY)             - Orlinda       - Cookeville                 - Sparta             - Carthage/South Carthage             - Lake Tansi             - Baxter             - Gordonsville       - Cleveland/Maryville                 - Athens             - Sweetwater             - Madisonville             - Spring City             - Andrews(NC)             - Englewood             - Tellico Plains             - Niota SOUTH CAROLINA       - Greenville/Anderson                 - Anderson             - Clemson             - Seneca/Utica             - Central             - Belton             - Williamston             - Walhalla             - Northlake             - Honea Path             - Pendleton             - Ware Shoals             - Mountain City(GA)             - West Pelzer             - Norris             - Six Mile             - Cross Hill       - Columbia/Sumter                 - Lexington             - Red Bank             - Springdale             - South Congaree             - St Matthews             - Gaston             - Pine Ridge             - Gilbert       - Charleston/Summerville/Georgetown     Area Viewing Locations     - Area to last see the shadow - Totality ends in the United States at 2:49:08 PM Eastern Daylight Time             - Moncks Corner             - Awendaw             - Elloree             - Santee             - McClellanville Note: Cities with populations of less than 500 are not included. |
