The total solar eclipse shadow begins in the Pacifc Ocean at 9:48:34 AM PDT (Pacific Daylight Time) 2450 miles west of the United States' western shore. Traveling at about 2,415 MPH, the shadow then makes landfall 27 minutes later at 10:15:51 AM PDT at the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area in Newport, Oregon. It then crosses the United States, and exits at Cape Island near McClellanville, South Carolina, traveling at about 1,485 MPH into the Atlantic Ocean at 2:49:08 PM EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). 73 minutes later, the shadow ends in the Atlantic Ocean at 4:02:32 PM EDT, 325 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.
